The building
For several years the fellowship met in Gordon and Gill’s home in the nearby village of Old Hunstanton, but in 1997 they were led into the town itself and started worshipping in the local community centre. The former magistrates’ court became available in 1999 and the fellowship purchased it as a building site. However the building was not demolished but refurbished with new electrical and plumbing services etc, redecorated and opened as a place of worship in February 2000.
We already have planning permission for extension of the building to include a doubling of the worship room capacity to give seating for about 180, and for 50% increase in our café room to give seating for about 90 people.
We will build a full immersion baptistery into the floor of the extended section. This will be the only such baptistery within about 15 miles. Even so, we will still encourage our fitter baptismal candidates to choose the sea, as this is a good source of outreach to passers-by.
The first phase of this work should start in the second half of 2007.
