The Mustard Seed is a coffee lounge
close to the town centre which has been given to the fellowship for
a peppercorn rent for 7 years. It is decorated in modern style, and
is kept warm to give us an attractive coffee lounge. All drinks
served are “fair-trade” products.
Our vision
for The Mustard Seed is to provide a friendly place, staffed
by volunteers, where the town can meet the church in
non-threatening surroundings. While The Way has the lease,
we do not operate it as “our” outreach, and we welcome other
Christians with a suitable reference from their minister to
join the teams. We already have Anglicans, Baptists and
Methodists on the team. Volunteers must be willing to give
assent to a simple set of biblical principles.
We are not
in competition with the tourist cafes around, and to
demonstrate that, it has been our practice to close over
lunch. Further we do not provide food, except for biscuits,
and neither do we charge for drinks. We rely on donations.
We do use
the cafe as a base to go out to the town when we are doing
specific evangelistic outreach.
Hours of opening will increase as
we get more volunteers. Currently they are Monday to Thursday 10am-noon and Thursday, Friday 2pm-4pm |
